Here are my creative writing samples. These writing samples cover a range of pieces I've written such as short stories, letters, and poems. Here I hope to convey my creative and expressive voice.

Short Story:
The Warmth of My Love

This creative sample is a short story I wrote in my "Intro to Short Story" class. This was before I switched my major to focus on writing. Before when I didn't know what was in store for me. So this class means a lot to me looking back now. When coming up with something creative and recreational, I simply give my self no limit and just write anything that feels and sounds right. Because of this, I tend to write in rather bizarre voices sometimes, which usually turns out to make an interesting piece. This story is told in the point of view of a deranged women who set her house a flame to "save" her family. I love to read and watch stories told by an unreliable narrator, so that's immediately where I took this story.

Letter:

Addressed to Charlie, With Love

This sample was written for UD's campus magazine "The New". The theme of the 2023 Fall issue was essence and along with that we all decide our childhood and youthful essence can be a subtopic. This letter was meant to be a child all grown up (Charlotte) speaking to her dearly missed childhood (Charlie Howard). She expresses longing and appreciation for her childhood but also acceptance towards adulthood (Aden Holmes). This letter can also be interpreted as a breakup letter as well. Like I said above, I let my brain take me wherever and create a new voice to put on the page.

This sample was written for UD's campus magazine "The New". The theme of the 2023 Fall issue was essence and one of the topics was standing out. During an early brainstorming session to decide subtopics and photoshoot ideas, I was talking to some other girls and realized we share a common feeling on campus. Feeling like the "other" around people. Sometimes this can be a good uplifting feeling but most times it can make people feel a bit uncomfortable. I wanted to spin that and focus on the positive in feeling like the odd one out. We typically revert to making ourselves small and quiet but people need to learn to be okay with taking up and owning space.
