Dehumanizing a Man with Words:
An Analysis of Imagery in Ralph Ellison Invisible Man

In my African American literature class we read and discussed chapters and excerpts from many well known classics and underground gems written by talented black writers. One of those excerpts was from the beginning of Ralph Ellison's Invisible Man. For this particular final assignment, I had to find a a peer-reviewed literature critique article and give my analysis and opinion on the article in regards to the text. I chose an article that discussed the imagery within the selected text. While reading, I felt the imagery elevated the power of Ellison's message to readers. It added multiple layers to make you think and maybe re-read. During the same semester I had an American literature class with the same professor. So essentially I had to do this final paper twice and I chose Invisible Man yet again but with a different critique article to analyze. Out of all my academic essays, this assignment urged me to be particularly thoughtful. I thoroughly enjoyed using my research, analytical, and perceptive skills to compose a paper about such a brilliant and vivid novel.

Ad Analysis:

Ruinart’s Blanc de Blancs Champagne.

During my spring semester senior year, I took a comm class titled "The Advertiser and the Consumer". For this assignment, I had to pick a print ad to analyze using the methods of analysis from Arthur Asa Berger that we learned about from our reading that week. It took me a while to find the right magazine and right ad to discuss but then I finally found a simplistic champagne at in a recent issue of the "Art Review". I mapped out my thoughts in my introduction clearly and concisely before getting into each method more in depth. While discussing the methods, I made sure to stick to the facts and reason to analyze and define what we are seeing.

Biomolecular Lab Research:

HPV-E2 Protein Study Abstract

During my time as a medical diagnostic major, I was a biomolecular laboratory intern at the University of Delaware through INBRE Summer Scholars. For the summer I worked in Dr. Subhasis Biswas's lab directly under graduate student Roxy Evande. I learned from and assisted her in her ongoing research about HPV and vaccines, but specially the E2 protein. Right after completing my first year in college with my entirety of my college lab experience being online, I made an effort to learn as much as I can and become a useful asset to Roxy and her work. After an extensive summer of learning and practicing different procedures day after day, I started to work on my research abstract and poster for the end of the summer symposium. I learned how to really compact all my research and findings into a one page poster and one page abstract. I quickly had to exercise the skill of writing concisely while preserving the integrity of the content.
